Comparison of 6061 7075 aluminum characteristic and application
- Aug 08, 2018 -

Characteristics:

Magnesium and Silicon are the main elements of 6061 aluminum alloy. Magnesium is added to 6061 aluminum to increase its strength. For each increase of 1% of magnesium, the tensile strength increases by about 34Mpa. The silicon is used to reduce the melting temperature. If magnesium and silicon are added into aluminum at the same time, Al Mg Si alloy is formed, and the strengthening phase is Mg2Si. Which makes the alloy responds well to heat treatment. The remaining elements in 6061 include chromium, iron, and copper.

The main elements of 7075 aluminum alloy are Magnesium, Zinc, and Copper. The addition of zinc and magnesium into aluminum forms a strengthening phase MgZn, which has a significant strengthening effect on the alloy. As the proportion of zinc and magnesium is adjusted, the tensile strength and stress corrosion cracking resistance can be increased, so in high strength alloy, the stress corrosion cracking resistance is the greatest when the ratio of magnesium and zinc is controlled around 2.7. It also includes trace amounts of silicon, iron, manganese, and titanium.
